From Cape St Vincent To Villa Real De Santo Antonio...
Algarve holidays attract families, couples and plenty of golf enthusiasts to its sunshine coast and vast green countryside. Located on the very southern tip of Portugal, holidays in the Algarve enjoy long hot summers and pleasantly mild winters making this an excellent winter destination too. Stretching from Cape St Vincent in the west to Villa Real de Santo Antonio in the east, the stunning coastline of white sandy beaches, limestone cliffs and fascinating rocky outcrops covers an amazing 155km. Cape St Vincent is the most south westerly point in Europe and you'll find migrating birds stopping off here for a well earned rest as they head south for the winter. Stand on the rocks and gaze out to sea, knowing the only thing separating you from the American coastline is miles and miles of deep Atlantic Ocean. Most of the resorts along the Algarve started life as sleepy fishing villages, many of which still retain the traditional charm of whitewashed houses and narrow cobbled streets, despite the vast throng of tourists.
The quieter resorts of Altura, Alvor and Praia da Luz are extremely popular with families and couples looking for a laid back almost sleepy atmosphere. Praia da Oura, Praia de Felesia and Praia da Roche have some of the very best beaches to be found on Algarve holidays while Vilamoura is a lively resort with some of the best sporting facilities available, Quinto Da Lago also has an abundance of sports activities. Albufeira combines a traditional town, stunning beaches and a lively nightlife beautifully to ensure its position as one of the liveliest places to stay on holidays in the Algarve. Montechoro, just to the end of "The Strip" in Albufeira is probably the liveliest part of all. The traditional towns of Lagos and the regions capital of Faro, also home to the Algarves airport, offer a historical look at the area, with museums and monuments showing off Portugals interesting heritage.
