Never Ending Beaches And Colourful Carnivals...
Calella holidays are definitely beached based as it is part of a 50km stretch of vast golden sands. Spotlessly clean beaches stretch for miles and miles so they are never overcrowded. During high season, the local council organise beach games and entertainment for the kids, so you can lie back and relax. There are over 1,000 sun beds to choose from but if you can drag yourselves away for a couple of hours there are plenty of water sports available. Try your hand at water skiing, windsurfing, scuba diving, snorkelling and even supervised canoeing. Or there again, you could stay on your sun bed and just watch! There's even a beach library incase you run out of reading material during your holidays in Calella. A leisurely stroll along the coastline will take you along rugged cliff paths giving panoramic views of the Mediteranean, or explore the stunning beauty of Dalmau Natural Park.
The people of Calella certainly know how to party, every month there are colourful fiestas, carnivals and parades and each Sunday night sees the Sardana - a fiery Catalonian dance - performed on the beach. Early June is the Sardana Festival, and September sees one of the biggest Fiestas, La Minerva, with the Miss Calella beauty contest and magnificent parade of huge papier mache figures. The sea front promenade is home to many bars and restaurants so you need never go far for refreshments, the old part of Calella with its quaint narrow streets offers a more traditional Spanish feeling with tapas bars and restaurants serving traditional Catalan dishes.
