Barbados Life – Laid Back and Easy Going
Barbados holidays are all about relaxation and forgetting that the outside world still exists. Barbados is the most eastern Caribbean island and is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean.
The tiny island is just 14 miles wide and 21 miles long and is mostly flat with a few higher regions, the highest point being Mount Hillary. Barbados is known for its laid back easy going lifestyle and has a history of Portuguese, Spanish and English influences.
Originally the main economy came from cotton, tobacco and sugar; however tourism took over the island in the 1950’s.
Barbados has a tropical climate but the refreshing sea breezes from the Atlantic Ocean help to keep temperatures bearable. The best time to visit Barbados is between November and May when the average daily sunshine is around 8 – 10 hours. Storms are common between June and November, although the last hurricane was 1955.
Bridgetown is the capital of Barbados and it’s where you can enjoy the culture and history of the National Heroes Square, St Michaels Cathedral and Parliament Buildings. You can also take a trip to Sunbury House during your holidays to Barbados, and delve into the history of the 300 year old Bajan plantation house.
