Gateway To Olympia
Kalamata holidays will take you to the Peloponnese region of mainland Greece. This area of Greece is full of history, Kalamata is known as the gateway to Olympia which is the original site of the Olympic Games which was held in 776BC. Kalamata town is home to a 13th Century castle which you can take a whole day to wander round. The area is also famous for its olives which are grown here and sold all over Greece.
The area is divided into two peninsulas, Messinia and Mani. Holiday resorts are found on both though the most popular and developed resort is Stoupa, on the Mani peninsula. Here there are many bars and tavernas and is ideal for anyone wanting a livelier holiday though still with a traditional feel, which is why visitors come to this area. This resort has one of the best beaches on the peninsula, ideal for sunbathing or water sports. Finikounda is the second busiest resort on the peninsula, home to bars and restaurants and a stunning coastline. There are three beaches here so you will always find your own cove to relax in. Even in the busy season there's enough room for everyone.
