San Antonio's quieter side

The area is, in fact, made up of more than one sandy bay, so when you decide to take a stroll away from All Inclusive hotels Ibiza, you get to take your pick of places to lounge peacefully, take part in water sports or sit and watch the best sunset on the island. The shoreline has a good scattering of cool bars, cafes and restaurants, which generally keep things on the down-low. You can see the big clubs and party bars of San Antonio Town across the water, and might want to try a few while you’re there, but they’re far enough away so you can’t hear them.

While there are bar crawls going on in town, you can take part in a beach crawl across the five bays. If you walked between them in one go it would only take 40 minutes, but you might want to linger a little and see what they each have to offer.

What all of the beaches have in common is shallow, warm and paddling-friendly water, beach kiosks to refresh yourself at and plenty of water sports, including parasailing, banana boats, jet-skiing and snorkelling. There is a palm-tree-lined promenade that joins the bays and leads all the way round to San Antonio Town’s ancient natural harbour. Ibiza package holidays within this area mean you can get out and explore all this and more.

The first bay that you come to when heading away from San Antonio Town is Playa S’Estanyol. It consists of two coves, one of which has a snack bar with a terrace overlooking the bay and the other has a popular bar that holds summer barbecues. Just around the headland, Es Puet has a small jetty where you can fish – or just feed the fish. If you want a really quiet spot Playa Port Des Torrent is within walking distance and popular with snorkellers.

    Across the water

The other side of the bay, the lights of San Antonio Town beckon. You can warm up to the sounds of top name DJs at the ambient beachside bars of the famed Sunset Strip and then make your way to the West End’s lively pubs and bars.

The town has two superclubs – Eden and Es Paradis – and a number of smaller ones playing house, techno, indie, reggae and everything in between. As Ibiza is a small island it’s also easy to travel to the other big clubs by bus, such as Pacha in Ibiza Town, or Privilege and Amnesia on the road in between the two towns.

San Antonio Town’s West End is great for picking up souvenirs and clubbing merchandise as well as clothes and beach essentials. The marina area is also a beautiful place to walk around with an ice cream.

    Take to the sea

From various landing points around San Antonio Bay you can take a ferry ride across to San Antonio Town or to one of the nearby beaches, such as Cala Conta, Cala Bassa and Cala Tarida. Larger boats offer day cruises to nearby Es Palmador and the neighbouring island of Formentera.

If you want to cool down, there are plenty of water-based activities to take part in. As well as the usual jet-skis, banana boats and pedalos, you can also try flyboarding, where jets of water help you fly over the sea. Or unleash your inner surf dude at the beach sports club, which has a FlowRider surf simulator. There’s also a Total Wipeout-style Ocean Mania inflatable course in the bay during summer months.

    Eating out

As well as a good selection of cafes and beach shacks to grab a quick bite in, there are also some top-notch San Antonio Bay restaurants and bars to dine in. At Kumharas in the Cala de Bou bay, you can sit and try tapas while watching the spectacular sunset with live music in the background. All types of food can be found in the bay, from traditional Iberian cuisine to Thai, freshly baked pizza or a good old English roast dinner.

    August Fiesta

If you’re planning on visiting in August then you won’t want to miss San Antonio’s annual festival. The Fiestas de San Bartolome in San Antonio are held around 24th August and you’ll find a funfair, live music and street parties in town. The festival culminates in a feast and a magnificent firework display that you can see from the comfort of a bar or your hotel in the bay. Booking package holidays to Ibiza around this time will make for an exciting visit.
