Es Cana Holidays 2024/2025

The small, coastal town of Es Cana has something to offer relaxation seekers, watersports enthusiasts and those who enjoy an evening tipple of two. Life passes by at a leisurely pace here, and the sparsely-populated, sheltered beach is a quiet place to unwind. There’s a real buzz about the town’s famous hippy market though, which is worth getting up from your sun lounger for.

A half-moon coast

The town’s main shores are Es Cana beach, a crescent-shaped strip of sand that fans out to clear, shallow waters. Bordered by pine trees, whitewashed buildings and a collection of waterfront restaurants, the beach is best enjoyed from a sun lounger, where you can relax underneath the warm rays. Or you might enjoy passing the time by fishing at the nearby marina.

Es Cana’s shores might be the picture of relaxation, but a livelier time awaits out on the sea. Adventurers can whizz across the water at high speeds on a banana boat while those less thrill-seeking can take things slow on a pedalo. You can even go for parasailing, windsurfing and waterskiing excursions, or just explore the coast on a tranquil boat ride.

Only a 10-minute walk up the coast you’ll find Cala Nova beach, whose waves are sought-out by surfers. Try your hand at catching one of your own or just chill out at a hip beach bar with a cocktail and watch the pros glide their way across the water.

Local nights out

Es Cana is home to a handful of restaurants specialising in Mediterranean cuisine that’s heavy on seafood and local flavour. You’ll find yourself dining while overlooking the beach, sipping wine beside a warm, open fire or as you cheer on your favourite sports team playing on TV.

The after-hours scene in Es Cana is lively, yet chilled out. In town, you’ll find an assortment of bars with live entertainment, games and cool drinks to help you unwind from an exhausting day of lounging on the beach.

At Charlie’s Bar, tribute acts perform every night, and then make way for DJ sets that’ll have you dancing the night away. Popeye’s Bar also features live entertainment, but spans out to comedians and sports broadcast on multiple screens. There’s also the Red Lion, an ex-pat pub in case you’re in need of a taste of England.

Hippy market

As an especially popular ex-pat destination in the 1960’s, Ibiza‘s counterculture enthusiasts went up in numbers. As a result, Es Cana became home to the hippy market, where a group of – you guessed it – hippies gather every Wednesday selling their goods to tourists and locals alike. Cheap Ibiza holidays are made easy when it comes to markets like these, where you can pick up lovely handcrafted items and souvenirs for less.

It’s mostly a laid-back gathering of friends that are happy if you buy something, and equally happy if you’re just floating through for a chat. Here, you can expect to find an amazing assortment of crafts from jewellery to clothing and art. There are also food stalls to pick up a quick bite to eat as you browse, plus live music from street performers.

Getting out and about

If you’re looking to explore, the Ibiza Express is a novel and scenic way to see the island – it’s a small, cartoon-style train that takes its riders on a three-hour tour of local sites.

With a bus service to the nearby town of Santa Eulalia running every half an hour, day trips into this cultural centre are easy. Santa Eulalia offers cheap holidays to Ibiza, brimming with daytime activities like art galleries, history museums and glamorous boutiques. While by night time, it becomes something of a culinary haven.

From Santa Eulalia it is possible to reach other parts of the island, such as historic Ibiza Town and San Antonio. Buses run until the early hours, so experiencing the legendary nightlife Ibiza holidays has to offer is a possibility. Just check the bus timetable in advance.
