The waterside

Ca’n Picafort was once a small village, home to local sailors and fishermen and the resort has retained a beautiful working harbour. Today, the harbour is the first step for many to a pleasure cruise around the island, which depart regularly throughout the day and can be booked from companies on the seafront.

Boat trips are perfect for the couple looking for a romantic sightseeing adventure, the curious individual looking to learn about Majorca and its wildlife and, of course, the adventurous family out to explore the rest of the area.

Restaurants and bars line the beach all the way from the fishing harbour to the modern town of Son Baulo. The promenade is very clean, with excellent facilities and more than enough sun loungers for everyone.

With a traffic-free coast, it’s easy to jump in and out of the water, refill your drinks, or grab a bite to eat and get back to your place on the sand. The best point on this stretch of paradise is the beach in the Baulo district, which has a small protected nature reserve. A touch of magic is added by the fact that the reserve has a host of pheasants, rabbits, weasels and hedgehogs – great for families with kids, who’ll enjoy seeing some wildlife on their holiday.

The S’Albufera Park is a great attraction too for any nature lovers keen to learn more about Majorca’s winged population. The seclusion and peace of the reserve attracts people who want to relax and wait for all Majorca’s feathered friends.

Ca’n Picafort proudly boasts the largest number of archeological sites on the island of Majorca, with over 150 officially-recognised spots. The majority of these breathtaking historical locations date back to Roman times, but there are many traces of the island’s medieval history in Ca’n Picafort, too. Even late deals to Majorca can take you to some of the earliest known buildings on the island.

Just 20 minutes from Son Baulo beach is the incredible Son Real Necropolis. Also known as the ‘Cemetery of the Pheonicians’, Son Real is a maze of ancient structures which sit spookily by the sea, with the tide lapping at their feet. As you pick your way around them you will experience the frightening beauty of these underground tombs, built all the way back in the Iron Age.

For the true culture vulture, the Parish Church in Santa Margalida dates back to the 16th century, but is built on the site of the original 13th century structure.

If it’s a hearty meal and a nightcap that you’re after, then look no further than the array of restaurants and bars on the seafront. Stylish, modern eateries sit beside traditional tapas taverns.

All this and more is available to anyone visiting this beautiful resort in the north of the island. Easily reachable from the airport, and well connected to neighbouring beaches, towns, and villages, you’ll be free to explore this special corner of Majorca.
