Waterparks and zoos

If you’re feeling active, watersports are on offer at the beach and Maspalomas also boasts the island’s largest golf course. Waterparks and zoos are just some of the many attractions nearby – and you can always hop over to Playa del Ingles for some extra excitement after sunset. Modern restaurants, designer boutiques and laid-back bars line Boulevard El Faro, all in the shadow of the 68-metre lighthouse, El Faro de Maspalomas.

Sand and sunshine

If you want to lay down your towel and soak up the sunshine, Maspalomas has got the perfect beach for it. Six kilometres of fine sand, with a variety of cafes, bars and restaurants well within walking distance. Maspalomas is separated from Playa del Ingles by 400 hectares of golden sand dunes, known as the Dunas de Maspalomas. Whether you want to explore the dunes via foot or camel, it is sure to be a memorable experience. There are number of rare plant species – some which can only be found in the Canaries – alongside wild lizards and rabbits. The nearby Maspalomas Lagoon (La Charca), that borders the west of the dunes, is home to many rare species of bird life.

Shop until you drop

Shopping is plentiful around Masapalomas, so make sure you bring some spending money! If you prefer things all in one place, try the CC Vardero, a small shopping centre near the lighthouse. There is also an array of souvenir shops and boutiques on offer if you’re looking for small gifts for friends and family back home. The nearby Playa del Ingles is home to bigger shopping malls and outlets if you are after a wider variety on your spree. The Boulevard El Faro offers a stretch of designer shops and fantastic restaurants so you can look forward to a well-earned break once you’ve finished.

Getting active

The nearby Aqualand boasts around 33 waterslides, so it’s sure to entice thrill-seekers. The waterpark is a perfect way to cool off, and there’s even a designated area for kids to play around in, so there’s fun for all ages. Stop by one of the park’s many cafes and ice-cream stands for a snack to refuel.

Golf lovers will be in their element with the 18-hole Maspalomas Golf Course. Surrounded by dunes and palm trees, the sea breeze will create a tranquil environment where golfers can relax and indulge in the sport. Water sports are on offer on the coast – you can have a go at surfing, paddle surfing and even bodyboarding classes. Nearby karting tracks are another great option for some adrenaline-fuelled fun.

If you want to explore the surrounding area as much as possible, you could try horse riding. Lessons are available for beginners or more experienced riders and it’s a great way to get off the beaten track and see some unmissable scenery.

Take back the night

Head to one of the town’s many bars to experience the upmarket, lively atmosphere of Maspalomas’ nightlife. Cocktail bars run by expats from all over Europe are very popular, and will provide you with a friendly atmosphere where you can meet likeminded holidaymakers. The El Faro Boulevard is a great spot to grab a cold beer and listen to some live music. There is plenty of variety on this stretch of the island – drag acts can be found in some venues as well as rock bands and jazz musicians.

If you want to carry on the party, head to Playa del Ingles for yet more excitement and dancing. Only a 25-minute walk away, you’ll find themed pubs and pumping music. It’s also the go-to place for belting out some karaoke!

Great days out

If it’s adventure you’re after, take a trip to Palmitos Park, the town’s zoo. Kids and adults alike will be enthralled by the amazing animal shows. Check out the aquarium, butterfly house and orchids. There are more animal experiences on offer at the camel ranch where you can take a camel ride through the Dunas de Maspalomas – the adorable baby camels are just one of the highlights of the desert trek.

Holiday World is another family-friendly theme park. It has a ferris wheel, roller coasters, bumper cars and many other attractions. Plus there’s restaurants and bowling to keep you busy all day!
