Los Gigantes Holidays 2024/2025

The 550-metre high cliffs that run 10 kilometres along the coast give this town the full name of Acantilados de los Gigantes, The Cliffs of the Giants. It was these mysterious, towering cliffs that first drew tourists to Los Gigantes. The resort has maintained its charm as a tranquil Tenerife holiday destination with an air of exclusivity.

The dark cliffs and sand are brightened by the white-washed buildings and the yachts that float in the marina.

The low rise apartments and hotels of this unique resort slope down towards the rocky shoreline meaning the majority of accommodation here has spectacular sea views. Los Gigantes is ideal for those who want cheap breaks to Tenerife in a secluded location with breath-taking scenery. It is also in the perfect spot for day trips to Mount Teide National Park or the hidden mountain village of Masca.

Situated on the west coast of Tenerife, Los Gigantes boasts some of the best weather in the Canary Isles. Due to its giant cliffs, the town also has a unique microclimate, which the small but sheltered black sand beach of Los Guios benefits from, as it sits between the cliffs and the marina wall.

You can also make use of the small beach of next door neighbour Puerto de Santiago or for a larger, Blue Flag beach head to Playa de la Arena, just four kilometres away.

    Pools with a view

As well as its beach, Los Gigantes has two public, saltwater lidos which are raised above sea level and offer fantastic views of the cliffs. Due to its excellent climate, sea temperatures in this part of Tenerife are 23°C in summer and still a reasonable 19°C average over winter.

Oasis Lido has a curved lagoon style pool surrounded by sun loungers, as well as bowls facilities and sports classes. El Laguillo Lido has a large pool with slides and loungers and also a small natural pool down a few steps into the sea. This rocky gully – like so many that line the coastline here – is ideal for snorkelling. At the southern edge of the resort there is also an open air rock pool called Crab Island.

    See nature close up

One of the biggest perks of booking a Tenerife All Inclusive holidayis that the views follow you no matter where you go. For the best view of the cliffs, we suggest taking to the water. Boats are available from the marina to take you out to see the colourful layers of basalt rock that form the cliffs. Other boating expeditions available include sport fishing and whale and dolphin spotting trips.

Or visit Los Gigantes Diving Centre, based at the marina. They can take you out for a once-in-a-lifetime experience to hand-feed turtles and – if you’re an experienced diver – stingrays.

    Explore the volcanic landscape

A short distance to the north, the highly photogenic mountain village of Masca has to be seen to be believed. Dubbed Mini Machu Picchu, the village is perched on a slither of narrow rock and offers brilliant views of La Gomera island, framed in the ravine looking out west to the Atlantic.

You can also pick up some unusual gifts in its independent shops offering handmade pottery, embroidered clothing and even liquor made from bananas and honey.

Los Gigantes is perfectly positioned for trips to the mind-blowing Mount Teide – Spain’s highest mountain and the third largest volcano in the world. You can hike through the lush forest of Teide National Park and up to the peak. Or, for a more leisurely trip, we recommend taking the cable car high above the clouds to near the 3,718-metre summit where you can gaze across the beautiful turquoise sea and take some breath-taking holiday snaps.

The towns of Los Gigantes, Puerto de Santiago and Playa de la Arena are situated conveniently close to one another. So close, in fact, that they almost roll into one. You can walk to the quiet, whitewashed town of Puerto de Santiago to sample a few bars, restaurants and the quaint fishing museum where you can learn about the history of the area.

If you are visiting in July, Puerto de Santiago’s fireworks display is one not to be missed. Only slightly further along the coast, Playa de la Arena takes things gently with low-key bars and restaurants on its palm-lined promenade and attracts people to the uncrowded, Blue Flag, black sand beach.

    Evening Entertainment

Evenings in Los Gigantes can be as lively or as laid back as you wish. There are an array of relaxing, seafront bars and restaurants where you can gaze on the beauty of an Atlantic Ocean sunset while sampling the local seafood. After dinner you can move on to the town’s more lively cabaret bars or nightclubs, which still maintain the resort’s laidback atmosphere.

Most of the entertainment found here is based at restaurants and hotels. Listen out for the soothing sounds of jazz and salsa music and let it draw you in. There is also the opportunity to sample the local folk music, Tenderete.

    A spot of shopping

Tourists have plenty of options in Los Gigantes when it comes to shopping, with a commercial centre based just north of the marina. Find souvenir, fashion and grocery shops as well as upmarket boutiques here. The nearby San Francisco development has a supermarket alongside many other facilities including a bar and restaurant, sports and tennis centre and a pool.
