Relaxing beaches

No Tenerife holiday is complete without a visit to the island’s spectacular beaches. With palm trees dotted across the sand and low cliffs to either side, the main beach of Playa las Galgas is a sheltered spot, ideal for sunbathing. The beach has also recently been graced with imported golden sand and new showers – ideal for freshening up.

The town’s second beach is just in front of Lago Paraiso, a saltwater pool with a tropical-style waterfall. For a small entrance fee you can make use of their sun loungers, coffee terrace bar and restaurant. The dive school Barkuda is also based here, ideal if you fancy a scuba diving trip during your break.

The beach itself is made up of black lava sand and natural stone, which will give your feet a bit of pedicure while you’re strolling along. The third, slightly smaller beach is a quiet spot with a picturesque stony shoreline.

The west coast has so many more stunning beaches, it would be rude not to give one or two of them a visit. Playa Callao Salvaje is a short walk to the north along a newly built coastal path. The beach itself is quite new too, with a strip of imported golden sand, a promenade and a jetty. It also has its own lifeguard.

In contrast, the beach of El Puertito, a fishing village to the south of Playa Paraiso, is made from natural grey-black lava sand and is full of rustic charm. Set off on one of the regular boat trips for a spot of fishing – perfect for seeking your own catch of the day.

Shopping heaven

For a quiet town, Playa Paraiso certainly knows how to shop. The El Marques shopping centre is situated on the peninsula, so it is worth a visit for the views alone. You can sit in one of its cafes and soak up the view across the Atlantic, with the island of La Gomera in the distance.

Both the El Marques and the shops along Arenida Adeje have some great options for original souvenir ideas with real Canarian charm. These independent shops offer embroidered clothes as well as handmade pottery and exotic liquors.

If you have more expensive tastes, take a trip to browse the rails in Costa Adeje. This town is designer heaven and even has its own Cartier shop. Playa de las Americas is also well stocked with fashion outlets and both towns are within eight kilometres of Playa Paraiso.

A variety of food and drinks

You’ll find plenty of restaurants here to keep you satisfied during your stay. Playa Paraiso is home to a variety of Spanish and Italian food, as well as British grub, which is available in pubs and cafes. The majority of eateries here are also bars so you can enjoy a drink while you tuck into some tapas.

Most places to eat and drink are situated on the main road so you can have a stroll along and check out the competition before you decide where you’d like to dine.

If you’re feeling energetic after your meal it’s just a short taxi down the coast to one of Costa Adeje’s beach bars and chill out lounges. If you’re in the mood for a dance, head further afield, where you can find an all-night clubbing experience in Las Americas.

Day trips

If you’re located in Playa Paraiso, you’re conveniently close to the island’s attractions. World-class water parks are available at either the family-friendly Aqualand, or the more extreme Siam Park. If you’re an animal lover it’s definitely worth a visit to Monkey Park.

There are several beautifully maintained golf courses to be found during package holidays to Tenerife, with a special collection of quality courses in the south west region around Costa Adeje and Los Cristianos.

Many feature the Tenerife’s trademark black volcanic sand bunkers and the opportunity to play surrounded by views of rocky mountains and stretching blue oceans – a beautiful contrast against the gorgeous greens of the course.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you can hike through the lush forest of Teide National Park and up to the peak of Mount Teide, which is Spain’s highest mountain and the third largest volcano in the world. For a more leisurely trip we recommend taking the cable car high above the clouds to a platform near the 3,718 metre summit, where you can gaze across the beautiful turquoise sea and take some breath-taking holiday snaps.
