Where culture comes to play

Arpora has a small town personality and is tucked away a little further inland than its lively coastal neighbours of Baga Beach and Calangute, making it possible to find plenty of cheap Goa package holidays on offer here. Tradition is high on the agenda here, and if you’re imagining a cosy sunshine community where little chickens strut and peck at dusty trails framed by pale buildings, you’re not altogether far from the truth.

Of course, the upbeat nature of Goa ensures there’s more than a splash of colour livening up proceedings. Between the entertainment options and surrounding landscapes, you’ve got lots to occupy yourself with before we even get to the opportunities to head out to the shore for seaside escapades.

Meals that entice

A close-knit community is always connected by a passion for good food and Arpora doesn’t drop the ball by any means. While you’re free to hit the road to nearby Baga, Calangute or Mapusa to see the sights and dine out in style, Arpora has plenty of tasty treats all of its own. One of the most beloved restaurants is J&A’s, which is locally owned and operated, yet specialises in the fine flavours and filling fare of Italy.

If cafe culture is more your style, Lila is a wise one to keep on your radar. Nestled beside the river, charm pours from every corner. It’s become the place to be when it comes to enjoying a breakfast that’s both delicious and guaranteed to set you up for a big day of seeing the sights.

Home amid the wonders

Because Arpora is brilliantly located, it makes sense that so many tourists have come to call it their home enjoying cheap holidays to Goa. Hourly buses keep you in the loop, enabling you to hit the road to see Baga, Anjuna and more. Or, you might instead opt for a scooter or bicycle rental to carve your own path.

Should you choose to head north, the treats will just keep coming. Vagator Beach is a secluded slice of heaven which also has the benefit of being snug beside the majestic and historic Chapora Fort. Because Arpora is hidden away within the palm trees, even the most bustling of city trips will end with you tucking yourself away in a rural room away from the hubbub.

The renowned night-time market

If you’re of the mindset that it’s just going to be lazy days and sunshine times in Arpora, you’re actually pretty much on the ball. Yet in essence, that’s only half of the story.

Right beside Arpora is where Mackie’s Saturday Night Bazaar is held every weekend, turning even the darkest nights into a festival of colour, aroma and sound. Fine spices and home cooking give the air a scent of mystery and intrigue. While stalls and stands staffed by everyone from local artists to international design representatives gather to ply their trade.

Rugs, knitwear, clothing, fabrics, saris, baskets, fruit, vegetables, fine foods and pottery – you name it, and someone in the Mackie’s Saturday Night Bazaar is keen to sell it. Adding to the fun, street performers and musicians are always there to liven up an already colourful evening.

Party after the sun goes down

Arpora might have a downtempo lifestyle, but you’re not bound to be tucked up in bed when the sun goes down each night if you don’t want to. In fact, if you do so you’re missing out on some pretty special nightlife.

Cocktails and crisp beers are readily found in the bars whose doors open after dark, and many holidaymakers choose to head to the shoreline for a beach party under the stars. What’s more, top DJs at pounding nightclubs keep the rhythm alive until the break of dawn, with Club Cubana on the hill overlooking Arpora proving a popular spot for revellers of every kind.
