    San Stefanos was originally a fishing village, and today is does everything it can to maintain that authentic atmosphere. The restaurants hold on to the traditions, and only bring in the freshest fish caught daily from the nearby coasts. It was once the case that locals would each go out and literally fish their own supper, today you get the catch delivered straight to your table.

    San Stefanos’ incredible location on the far north-western coast of Corfu means that its coastal bars and restaurants get an unbeatable view of the island’s famous sunset. Many restaurants in the area have fought hard to open up where they have and so they really make the most of the incredible views. Once you’re sitting in the front row you’ll see why.

    When you’re all dressed up and ready for your night out, San Stefanos provides an ambient atmosphere. However, if its a full blow-out you’re after then you might want to make your way to neighbouring Sidari, which is just a 20-minute bus or taxi ride away. It’s a surprisingly lively affair in Sidari’s main strip as the place is brimming with bars playing loud music and serving dramatically-decorated cocktails.

    Day trips to Corfu Town

    The island’s capital of Corfu Town is a cosmopolitan mecca for all, with tons to do and even more to see. First things first is the history in Corfu Town, as you’ll soon notice everywhere in the town is rich in cultural heritage. The winding streets of the Old Town, for example, are filled with authentic Corfiot tavernas and market traders looking to barter with visitors.

    Up above the Old Town is the Venetian Fortress, which is a heritage site for the city. Tour guides offer lots of information about the structure and will take you through the history step-by-step, with particular detail on the fact it defended the island against three Ottoman Empire sieges.

    The commercial district of Corfu Town is where you’ll find the international, fusion and critically-acclaimed restaurants to have a stylish and relaxed meal in. There are also rows and rows of boutique fashion stores and fine jewellers, where you can find an extravagant gift for your someone.

    It’ll take just over an hour to get to Corfu Town by bus, or you can drive yourself if you’ve hired a car, but once you’re there it’ll be well worth the trip. Also, if you are travelling by public transport, Corfu Town offers connections to all the resorts on the island.
