A holiday destination jackpot

Lindos may be a small resort but it’s jam-packed with plenty to see and do. Historical ruins, a lively nightlife scene and tons of restaurants and shopping venues make it one of Rhodes’ most popular holiday hotspots. This resort is located right by the coast and has a stunning backdrop of hilltop ruins. Lindos is determined to keep this town a historical and cultural site, and has recently passed a preservation order to help maintain the kind of whitewashed charm and narrow, cobbled streets that so many of us imagine when we picture holidays to Greece.

This town has a complex history, with Roman, Turkish, Italian and Byzantine rulers all making their mark on its landscape. Today, you can spot floors made from chochlaki – smooth black and white pebbles – throughout the small streets, and several of the old churches scattered throughout Lindos are decorated with elaborate frescoes of Biblical scenes. History is everywhere.

A two-beach holiday

Rhodes holiday packages are particularly popular with water-lovers, while Lindos itself offers two fabulous beaches to explore. Pallas beach, to the north, has soft golden sand and its sunloungers and parasols are available for a small fee. There’s also a fantastic watersports centre if you fancy trying out some wind- or kite-surfing.

On the south side of the town is the sand-and-pebble beach of Saint Paul, a little more secluded and rural. Both these coastlines have their own bars and cafes where you can grab a bite to eat before hitting the water. Just south of the resort is the natural harbour at Saint Paul’s Bay. This clear natural swimming pool is surrounded by rocks and around six metres deep, making it ideal for doing a bit of snorkelling and spotting some underwater marine life.

Historical ruins and donkey rides

Probably the most iconic spot in all of Lindos is the Lindos Acropolis. This castle-like structure sits on top of a hill and can be seen from every vantage point in the town. This ruin is full of Greek history and inside you can explore a temple honouring Athena, and the remains of the 14th-century fortress built by the Knights of Saint John. It’s a steep climb up the side of the mountain so many people choose to get there the traditional way – on a donkey.

Thriving nightlife in a small town

For a small resort, Lindos has a surprisingly large amount of nightlife venues. Known as one of the liveliest nightlife spots in Rhodes, you’ll find all kinds of places to spend the evening here including nightclubs, late-night tavernas, cocktail bars and pubs.

Whether you’d rather sit under a vine canopy drinking wine, or party the night away on the dance floor, there’s a nightlife venue for you. If loud parties aren’t your thing, rest easy – the bar scene is far enough away from the hotels, your night’s sleep won’t be disturbed.

Late-night markets

The pedestrianised cobbled streets of Lindos are great places to do a bit of shopping. You’ll find everything here from gift shops selling souvenirs to local jewellery stores. Lindos also has some fantastic summer markets with stalls selling various craft items. These markets tend to be open late into the evening giving you plenty of time to find that perfect gift for back home.

Restaurants

If you’re feeling peckish you’ve come to the right resort. Lindos is chock-full of delicious homemade Greek cuisine, which you can find in eateries by the beach or inland in the traditional whitewashed buildings. Several restaurants have their own roof-top terraces, where you can spend a leisurely evening sipping wine, trying some of the local dishes and watching the sun go down.

There’s also quite a few upscale spots to dine, as well as Mediterranean and Italian restaurants if you feel like branching out from the traditional Greek menu.
