Serene sunshine
With a balmy Mediterranean climate and close proximity to natural and historic attractions, Turkler is an excellent base from which to explore the rest of the Antalya region. Never feeling over-crowded, even during the height of the summer, this part of the Turkish coastline remains serene throughout the year.
A 20-minute drive east will find you in the coastal resort of Alanya, which offers more shopping, dining and drinking options, an abundance of ancient ruins to explore and a number of day excursions on offer. A regular bus service runs between these two resorts giving you the opportunity to ricochet between the low-key tranquility of Turkler and its livelier neighbour.
Nightlife and dining in Turkler is mostly contained within the resort’s hotels, with the larger complexes providing multiple bars and restaurants. If you venture into the village you’ll find a handful of traditional establishments where you can dine with the locals and taste fresh, homemade Turkish treats. For a wilder night out, head to the nearby resorts of Alanya and Konakli, where you’ll find a host of vibrant bars and nightclubs.
Relax on the sands
Enjoy the quiet and relaxing atmosphere on the white-sand and pebble beach as you gaze into the azure blue ocean on cheap holidays to Turkey. Adorned with sunloungers and parasols as well as year-round sunshine, Turkler Beach is the perfect spot to top up your tan and enjoy a peaceful dip in the warm Mediterranean water.
If you tire of lazing in the sun, take advantage of one of the many watersports on offer, including banana boats, jet skis, surfing and sailing, or enjoy a lighthearted game of beach volleyball.
Swim with sharks and dolphins
This isn’t like any ordinary waterpark, where you’ll find a selection of adrenalin-pumping waterslides and rapids. Instead, on arrival at the Sealanya Sea Park you’ll be kitted out with a wetsuit and snorkel and then let loose in the Tropical Reef, where you’re invited to swim with tropical sea creatures and colourful coral.
You can swim alongside and feed the majestic sting rays in their own tank or explore the lost city of Atlantis in an underwater playground. You’ll also be given the opportunity to cage dive in the Shark Tank and take a dip with the dolphins. Suitable for all ages, this is a day out that will have both kids and adults smiling.
Take to the sea
A number of boats at Turkler harbour offer day trips to explore the stunning Mediterranean coastline, but for a wider selection of tours head to nearby Alanya. Many of the tour operators that provide Turkey holidays here will include free pick-ups from your resort in Turkler before whisking you off to discover the likes of the Green Canyon and sea caves, with opportunities to snorkel in and around the sea grottos.
Sunbathe on deck and enjoy the idyllic scenery as your captain serves up a delicious barbecue lunch all whilst viewing the main sights around the peninsula – including the Red Tower, Old Shipyard and Alanya Castle. Finish the day off with a swim at the scenic Cleopatra Beach before being transported back to your hotel.
Enjoy the otherworldly fairy chimneys at Cappadocia
If you’re not short on time and you enjoy natural wonders, take a couple of days to explore the fantastical Cappadocia in central Turkey. Created by ancient volcanic eruptions, this charming region is full of strange rock formations, valleys and pinnacles eroded into chimney shapes, which over the centuries have been carved by man into cave dwellings, churches and small cave cities.
Bed down in one of Cappadocia’s cave hotels for the night before taking to the UNESCO-protected valley of fairy chimneys, a collection of churches carved into the rock and painted with Byzantine frescoes.
