Tucked into the hillside is the hotel’s pool. It’s a large, rectangular number that comes with a smaller version for kids. Sunbathing space spreads out on a sun deck.
Next to the pool, you’ve got a bar* that serves up drinks and ice-creams throughout the day.
You can dine with a sea-view backdrop in the buffet restaurant. International and Madeiran dishes make up the dinner spread. Eggs, sausages and baked beans, as well as Continental options are on offer at breakfast.
Surrounding the hotel, there are restaurants* that cover everything from Mexican to gourmet burgers. You can walk to them in five minutes.
Take a seat on the bar terrace to watch the evening entertainment. Live musicians take to the stage. Make sure you try a Madeiran Poncha – they’re the speciality at this place.
The centre of Funchal is a 15-minute taxi ride away. There, you can spend a low-key evening hopping between cocktail bars, try your luck at the casino, or hit a nightclub.
You can work out in the gym, or wind down in the sauna*.
On the outdoor terrace, you’ll find a rectangular pool, plus a smaller one for children. There’s a pool bar next to it, as well as a café for hot drinks and cakes. Indoors, there’s the buffet restaurant which opens for breakfast and dinner and a wellness centre with a sauna.

Rooms at the Baia Azul are comfortable spaces. They all come with air-con, cable TVs and a shower in the bath. As standard your room will come with a mountain view. For a little extra you can swap that for a sea view. For added luxury, there's superior sea-view double rooms as well. These come with extras like bathrobes and slippers, and can be found on higher floors.
