Outside, a big swimming pool is hidden away among lawns, fountains and flower-lined pathways. Smart wooden loungers line up along a wide sun terrace, offering up fantastic views of the surrounding countryside.
The main restaurant features chandeliers and a huge fireplace, and lays on huge breakfast spreads, as well as a fixed menu later in the day. There’s an elegant à la carte venue*, too.
The à la carte eatery* offers gourmet dishes, served against a backdrop of carved woodwork and detailed tapestries. As for snacks, they’re taken care of at the poolside bar.
The main bar holds a grand piano, and you’ll find a pianist playing on most evenings.
A tennis court is tucked away in the gardens, while inside there are a couple of cosy lounges and a library. The hotel also puts on a courtesy bus for the 15-minute journey into Funchal’s centre.
There’s a fitness room inside, as well as a sauna and a whirlpool bath.
The swimming pool here is set in lush gardens, and offers up fantastic views over the hills towards the Atlantic. The grounds also hide a bar and a tennis court, while inside you’ve got a pair of elegant restaurants and two lounges filled with antiques and tapestries.

Twin bedrooms can sleep 3 people and are decorated in the same elegant style that runs throughout the hotel. Each one has Wi-Fi*, air-conditioning, and robes, plus you’ll get fresh flowers when you arrive. Superior rooms offer a bit more space, and have a balcony with views over the subtropical gardens.

It's hard to give an accurate review of a hotel in these Covid-19 times. We stayed for a week, only leaving yesterday and unfortunately, the hotel was 90% empty with only 8 or 9 rooms occupied...
