• 3km to Bayahibe Beach
• 10km to a golf course
The Whala! Bayahibe offers up a handful of sea-view pools, around-the-world dining options and a laidback waterfront locale.
Most of the hotel’s facilities are clustered near its central courtyard. You’ll find four good-sized pools here, along with a pair of al fresco à la cartes. The rest of the grounds are dotted with well-kept gardens and couple-sized daybeds – perfect for watching the sunset.

You’ve got four pools to pick from. Three are lined up right along the coast, while the last one’s a few metres away, in the middle of the palm-tree-fringed courtyard. There’s a children’s paddling pool, too.
If you’d prefer to sprawl out on some sand, the nearest Tippex-coloured strip is Dominicus Beach. It’s a five-minute drive away, and you can get there using the hotel’s free shuttle bus.
The buffet restaurant dishes up a variety of international and local favourites, like pasta, braised chicken and meaty stews. It hosts weekly Mexican, Italian and Caribbean themed nights, too.
Elsewhere, you can tuck in to grilled seafood and fried plantains in the Caribbean à la carte. Or, opt for a sushi platter in the Japanese number. There’s a poolside bar, as well, which serves burgers, pizzas and evening cocktails.
Entertainment-wise, this place keeps things low-key. There’s the occasional live music show by the pools, and the gardens are filled with seating areas, where you can unwind with a drink and watch the sun set.
The pool scene steals the show there. There are four to choose from, as well as a smaller paddling pool for little ones to play in. Meals are dished up in the buffet restaurant and the two waterfront à la cartes – one caters in Caribbean food, while the other’s a sushi bar. There’s a bar by the pool, too, which is the ideal place for after-dinner drinks.
