City of Derry Airport sees around 300,000 passengers pass through its terminal each year.
In 1941 RAF Eglinton air base was established as the home to a few RAF squadrons, making City of Derry Airport a well used base during the World War ll. After the war the base remained military establishment until the 1950’s when much of the land was returned to the original landowners. City of Derry Airport was originally named Londonderry Eglinton Airport and during the 60’s and 70’s very little commercial activities happened. In the late 80’s and early 90’s a major redevelopment took place and saw the airport change its name to City of Derry Airport. Now this airport is a vital link for many flights to UK destinations.
City of Derry Airport is located approximately 7 miles north east of the city centre with access via the A2. The nearest train station is Derry-Londonderry train station and is connected to the airport by a regular bus service. There is a regular bus route that operates from Foyle Street bus station.
